Financial Coaching for Family Stability
Connections and the 100+ families we support are grateful for support from FCSS so that we could add a Financial Coach. Our new Financial Coach and program are already helping families with budgeting, entitlements, and making better financial decisions.
“I feel safer” was the first thing one of our Moms said after spending some time with Connections’ Financial Coach. Worrying about money was part of her daily life. But the more she worried, the more she was afraid to look more closely.
With an initial review of the family’s income and expenses, and a discussion about how she managed each month, she heard from the Financial Coach that she really did have a good system that showed she knew about money and numbers. She wasn’t doing anything wrong and used some really good techniques to manage her household. But with a few easy tips added to what she already did, she would have an even better handle on what money was coming in and how much was going out.
Now the family is eagerly looking forward to working with both her In-Home family support and the Financial Coach to keep getting better at managing for her peace of mind and so that her children continue to thrive.
The Connections’ Financial Coach program came out of our In-Home team identifying the need for adding this specialized expertise. With the support of FCSS, Connections was able to develop the program, tapping into excellent resources from Prosper Canada and Momentum.
Up next — Connections is hosting CRA volunteers who will hold clinics at Connections’ office so that our families can get their taxes completed and submitted. For many families, this step will allow them to earn more entitlements that will be a key step to get above the poverty line and be able to maintain a stable home for their children.
We continue to be grateful to our funders at the Alberta Government and FCSS who are helping us help families.
