“Gabrielle” is a wonderful film that is funny, sweet and yet challenges our thinking. Lead actress, Gabrielle Marion-Rivard, tells a wonderful story about first love. Gabrielle the actress and the lead character have Williams syndrome and Gabrielle the character lives in a group home and participates in a choir with other adults with developmental disabilities. She has a full life and a supportive mother and sister. Yet when she becomes romantically involved with a man in her choir, both her family and her support workers are concerned.

Connections is an agency that has supported adults with developmental disabilities (including brain injury, Autism and FASD) to parent successfully for 30 years. The parents we support are people who chose to have intimate relationships and have children. Like everyone else, they love their children, but just need a bit of support to be successful.

In the film, “Gabrielle,” we see an adult with disabilities from her point of view, and we also understand her family and supports. Most important, the movie is a delight — funny, entertaining and deeply affecting. Watch the trailer here
