counselling for parents and families

Counselling at Connections is offered to adults with cognitive challenges (individuals or couples) or to their family members.

The families we support have complex lives and numerous challenges. They have the same issues that would bring anyone else to counselling.

Counselling methods may need to include extra time to build trust because of the effects of: a history of unhappy experiences with education, health and other systems; abuse and vulnerability to being taken advantage of; as well as a lack of control over their own life decisions.

The cognitive challenge can lead to an extended period of counselling to provide time for information processing, repetition and reinforcement. Just like the tailored In-Home support we provide, counselling is offered so that it works for the individual.
